The Labour MP Clive Lewis has called on Rishi Sunak to enter negotiations with Caribbean leaders on paying reparations for Britain’s role in slavery, following the historic announcements by the Trevelyan family.
Speaking at a parliamentary debate on promoting financial security in the Caribbean, Lewis said the issue of reparations could not be dismissed as an obsession among a small group of “so-called woke extremists”.
He pointed to the recent announcements by the Trevelyans, an aristocratic British family, who made history by travelling to the Caribbean to publicly apologise for the ownership of more than 1,000 enslaved Africans and committed to paying reparations.
Reparations have long since been paid. We owe nothing and the idea that the taxpayers in this country should cough up for something that happened long before we were born is a hideous idea. The Trevelyans have merely made a stick with which the grifters can beat us. Idiots.
“They did what no British government has ever done before. They apologised for their ancestors’ part in the exploitation of the 1,000 slaves they owned on six plantations,” he said. “They acknowledge the financial and cultural advantage this has generated for them and urge the British government, as I will today, to enter into meaningful negotiations with the government of the Caribbeans in order to make appropriate reparations.”
Fuck off, fuck off, fuck off. They have no business apologising for something that happened generations ago. The perpetrators are long dead as are those who suffered. No one can apologise for the actions of another and nor should they.
Lewis added the announcements by the Trevelyan family had “opened the door of this debate just a little wider”.
The door to blatant grifting, frankly. We owe the Caribbean nothing. Not one single penny piece. It is not our responsibility. These places have been independent for well over half a century now. If they are struggling it is their fault and no one else’s. Bearing in mind that the area is a massive tourist trap.
Lewis went on to liken the relationship between the UK and the Commonwealth to an abusive relationship in which one partner has endured “400 years of the most hideous abuse, one who now seeks not charity, but restitution”.
He added: “This country will not be able to move on as a cohesive whole until these issues are resolved.”
We will be able to move on just fine without race grifters trying to fleece us for some imaginary hurt. The transatlantic slave trade ended over two hundred years ago – no one who suffered or benefitted is alive. This country spent more of its GDP eradicating the trade than it ever earned from the trade. So go fuck yourself. Or are you going to North Africa and demand reparations from the arseholes who, for centuries, raided the coasts and the seas around southern England and Ireland taking slaves for the north African slave markets. No? Well fuck off then. And when you get there, fuck off again and again.
Britain was responsible for eradicating the slave trade, we should send them the bill.

We could calculate the almost inestimable amount of dosh wasted on so called international development, or the billions pissed away in Africa, or the cost of treating tropical diseases, or the social and financial costs of having these third world savages in the country, or the colossal cost of black crime, particularly drugs,rape and murder, then deduct it from the reparations, then they can send us the balance.
Is Norway going to compensate us for the Viking invasions, or Denmark? Is France going to compensate us for William the Conqueror’s campaign of slaughter, including regicide? The Spanish cost us a pretty penny with their armada antics.

The current relationship between the UK and the Commonwealth is, of course, so incredibly abusive that countries that weren’t colonised by the British have now joined it.
Another politician who thinks that taxpayer’s money, ie our money, is for him to spend on whatever takes his fancy. This country needs a proper constitution to drastically curtail politicians and parliament powers.

Perhaps the UK government could offer reparations in the form of a one way plane ticket to any country of their choice on the African sub continent. That way, they could be as one with their racial cultures in the land of their fathers. Just a thought
It always seems relevant to point out that GDP per person, both nominal and at purchasing power parity is far higher in the Caribbean than in West Africa where the slaves were taken from. So whose descendants should get reparations?

Not to excuse the Trevelyans, but the “apology” and payment of reparations were forced speech under threat of expropriation of all of their property by the Government of Grenada.
If they’d sold up, do you imagine they’d have “apologised”? No. They’d have told the Government of Grenada to get fucked.
Blacks sold fellow blacks to the slave traders. This fact is never mentioned by those seeking repatriations.

Doesn’t just about everyone know personally at least on individual who can never quite hold down a job and whose life is constantly a shit show? This individual is always on the blag, always needing someone to bail him out. These countries are like a collective version of that guy. If it’s not slavery it’s climate change that they are using to justify asking for hand outs. Just like that bloke, getting their shit together and sorting it out for themselves is never on the cards.
