Poetic Justice

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

A man removing a catalytic converter from a BMW was crushed to death when the car fell on him, an inquest heard.

Daniel Stephens, 25, from Pontypool in South Wales, had tried to take the valuable mechanical part from a vehicle in a car park along Porth High Street on August 12.

At 6am the car’s owner approached his vehicle before driving to work, but found Mr Stephen’s body mangled under the weight of his car.

While the car owner had the distress of finding a crushed scrote under his car, at least he still has the catalytic converter. And the scrote won’t be repeating the offence. Win, win all round.

Rachel Knight, South Wales Central Assistant Coroner said Mr Stephens was “clearly missed by many people” and offered condolences to family friends.

Expect the usual tacky stories about what a jolly fine, upstanding fellow he was, loved by all. The world is better off without him, frankly.

  1. He was a big bloke, apparently: six foot by four foot and half an inch thick.

Hybrids are fair game, I heard, because they use their engines much less than proper cars and the cats are in better condition.

  2. Been happening a lot around where I am too. I’m told they target old cars though, I think the new cars maybe use cheaper newer materials in the converters.

  3. Just finished drafting a post on this, so will link when it goes up. I noted this passage:

“He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead, and was later identified by his fingerprints and tattoos.”

Not his first brush with the law, then? Sadly, not a Darwin, as our host points out, since he’d already sired three offspring. Who the taxpayer will now keep.

  4. The Jannie. I need a new keyboard……

I remember a story years ago about one of these ‘lovable rogue’ types who had been murdered.
One local who did not wish to be named said “whoever did it deserves a medal the size of a dustbin lid”……

    • I remember that news item! That must be 40 years or so ago! I can’t remember much but apparently the male was a violent troublemaker who caused greif to the whole locale and nobody had anything good to say about him. Apparently his death was suspicious. The news media of the time made out he prefered animals to people. Everybody interviewed was joyous that this person had died.

  5. I assume that someone from Leigh Day is helping the mother(s) of his children to sue the manufacturers of the catalytic converter for being complicit in his death.

  6. Great result. Scumbag thief hoist by his own petard. Pity it didn’t go bang instead of crunch but still a result.

  7. Not much to add here, the worthless bastard got what he deserved, the world is better off without him.
