I despise Greenpeace. Sanctimonious, self-righteous twats that try to force their misanthropic worldview on the rest of us. It went wrong last night.
At least two people were taken to hospital with head injuries last night when a botched Greenpeace stunt before the Germany v France Euro 2020 match saw a paragliding activist hurtle into the stands.
An activist who was supposed to drop a slogan-covered ball onto the pitch to protest against tournament sponsors Volkswagen instead clipped ‘spidercam’ TV cables attached to the stadium roof and lost control.
Large pieces of plastic and metal sheared off his damaged craft – a seated microlight with a rear fan that propelled him under a yellow parachute – as he went into a spin that sent him shooting just inches over dozens of people’s heads in the stands.
France manager Didier Deschamps and members of the squad and backroom staff were among those forced to take evasive action to avoid being injured by the activist and his disintegrating machine.
At least two people were hit, with one of them suffering facial fractures, German newspaper Bild reported.
That will have done their campaign a world of good. Apparently this moron was arrested and various criminal charges are likely to be brought. Good.
The campaign group said they regretted any harm caused.
Yeah. Gerry Adams used to say something similar. People were there to watch a football match, not have political messages rammed down their throats. That it all went horribly wrong has probably done more good than harm if it damages the reputation of this vile organisation.
Is this something to do with VW having to cheat in order to get their already clean burning diesels through ever more stringent emmission regulations? VW were the first to get caught but I think that all manufacturers would have been doing the same. As I understand it, the engine management system had a setting for passing the tests that gave dreadfully poor performance. Once the test was done the system could then be reprogrammed so that it actually worked. I’ve seen TV ads that were encouraging owners to take VW and other offenders to court over it. I’m not sure how anyone has been inconvenienced by have a car that they can actually use but that isn’t quite as clean as they thought it was. VW should have done an optional recall and put complainers’ cars back to the clean setting.
As for Greenpeace, totally agree, vile bunch of hypocrites.

It’s nothing to do with ever having been inconvenienced, it’s just another money making scheme for leech claims management companies now that PPE has died out
The no win, no fee parasites are always looking for a new grift. They tried it out on a client of mine a few years back. Lad fell off the bike during CBT and we got demands for money with menaces. Unfortunately for them, he lied. Tried to claim he wasn’t wearing a helmet. We had witnesses that said different. Told them to take it to court, whereupon their claimant would be facing perjury charges. Never heard another peep from the bastards.

Many years ago, I reacted with horror to the ‘French state terrorism’ that resulted in the bombing of a Greenpeace boat and the murder of a photographer.
Now, I wonder if the French Government wasn’t just way ahead of the times…
