More Scientifically Illiterate Bollocks

Facepalm time.

The Home Office has been accused of putting holidaymakers’ health at risk by sending unvaccinated officials to check that returning travellers are self-isolating at home.

Contractor Mitie last night admitted that it did not require staff conducting doorstep quarantine checks on behalf of the Government to have had their jabs.

It comes after one recently returned holidaymaker complained that the company sent a ‘vaccine refusenik’ to check up on him – and that the compliance officer was not wearing a mask over his mouth.

‘I’m double-vaccinated and went on holiday to a Greek island where every single adult is double-vaccinated – and they haven’t had a single Covid case for three months,’ said the homeowner.

I think we should just ditch any pretence of science and go back to buying lucky charms from a witch doctor. For that is the level of understanding on display here.

Firstly, according to the manufacturers, the vaccines on offer do not prevent spread or infection – they mitigate symptoms. Consequently, those of us who have not been vaccinated run the risk of more acute symptoms than those who have had it, should we contract the disease. Also, it is just as likely that we do so from someone who has been double vaccinated as we are from a fellow refusenik. Therefore, this double vaccinated person is no more at risk from an unvaccinated person calling round than a vaccinated one. And as for the insane belief that masks make the slightest bit of difference…

That’s quite apart from the whole pantomime that this person is going through being unnecessary in the first instance for exactly the same reason. Not one of the measures and rules put in place is scientifically sound – they are all knee-jerk reactions that appear instinctively right to those proposing them and any evidence of their ineffectiveness is ignored in a triumph of blind belief over logic, reason, rational thought or observable fact. The evidence is overwhelming but the government, SAGE, the media and the hard-of-thinking just turn a blind eye.

I’m sure there’s a study to be had regarding that, but I’m not sure I want to know what it will tell us about humanity.

  1. Quarantining people who are returning from somewhere that is Covid free is pretty daft as well.

  2. Actually SAGE assume that vaccines prevent spread — their initial models assumed a decrease of 30%; field data shows it to be closer to 70%.

If the vaccine leads to a person killing off the virus before they are enough suffused to spread viral particles, then it prevents spread (otherwise eliminating smallpox would have been rather more difficult — they didn’t vaccinate everyone in the world).

I’m sorry, it might not be a primary result that highly-regulated manufacturers can claim, but to say that vaccines do not prevent spread is unscientific wibble.

    • Unfortunately, we are seeing reports of cases where people who have contracted it have had their two doses. I can only go by what the manufacturers tell us, can we not? And I would place more faith here in the manufacturers than I do in SAGE. As an aside, when they came out with the statement that the vaccines do not prevent spread or infection, I did raise my eyebrows as this, surely, was the raison d’être of the whole programme. And how much of the decline is due to vaccination and how much is due to natural seasonal decline as occurred last year? Given the systematic gaslighting from SAGE, the media and government, I no longer trust any of them.

Even if, as with the smallpox vaccine, it prevents spread, my overall point stands – the unvaccinated are a risk only to those who have made the same decision. We are not the health risk as the propaganda would claim. As Julia Hartley Brewer put it recently, we have taken that risk, let us live with it. Not a problem for those who are vaccinated.
