Non au Réveil

The French are fighting back against the wokeist attempt to pervert their language.

France has banned schools from using ‘gender neutral’ spellings, saying they are a threat to the French language.

The country’s education ministry issued the ruling last week after a push to include full stops in the middle of written words – dubbed ‘midpoints’ – which allow both male and female forms to be represented simultaneously.

But the Academie Francaise, which is responsible for guarding the French language, said the move is ‘harmful to the practice and understanding of [French.]’

While I’ve always regarded this approach to stop the language changing – Franglias is a thing that just won’t die, no matter what. Le weekend is here to stay no  matter what the Academie Francaise might try to do about it – For once, I’m with them and wish them well in their endeavours. Wokeism needs to be vigorously resisted wherever it raises its ugly visage.

And, it needs to be stated here – the demands for gender neutral language comes from a tiny minority of activists. It does not come from the majority of those people on the trans spectrum. They just want to be left to live their lives. This is the usual hard left extremists using a small group of people for their own ends. Once they move onto another, the trans people will be dropped in favour of the new pets whoever they may be.

    100% agree

    Agree, with a small fix

I sometimes think we need something similar to eradicate misuse of ‘sat’, ‘lay’ etc

Yep, dropped: working class; mostly dropped: women, gay, disabled; trending down RoPs

    New pets?
    – Indigenous black Brits who grew from the soil like Aus Abos?

Please include the extra letter T which is being inserted into words having only one, and sometimes none. To the best of my knowledge forty, and thirty have one T. Else, and because, have never had a T.

I could be wrong as I failed the 11 plus.

  3. Franglias, I recall that there was an attempt to have the word sandwich expunged from the French language. The idea was mocked by pointing out that a sandwich would then have to be called two pieces of bread with something in between them, in French obviously but my schoolboy French is too rusty to attempt that.

  4. Since EVERYTHING in French is either masculine gender (Le) or feminine gender (La), and unlike German, the language doesn’t have a neuter gender, this really is a most confusing state of affairs.

  5. Not sure how many genders there are allegedly currently, but I’ve always found it interesting that multiple genders only really works with English since we don’t have quite so much accidence as other languages.

In German there are four caes, and although words don’t change every time, add 10 new pronouns, theoretically you get 40 different declensions. Polish has 7 cases iirc. You don’t really have any other way of indicating a word’s role in sentence since the word ending is what indicates the role, that’s the way it works.

So they’re correct, in heavy inflected languages, its problematic if not impossible but its just another attack on language, and therefore an attack on free thought.

They do the mid word punctuation in German too.
