The Beginning of the End?

The Labour collapse in Hartlepool was fairly predictable. More so given that Reform collapsed as well with those votes going to the Tories. Certainly Labour’s attempts to smear the Tory candidate over Cayman connections didn’t have the desired effect. Looking across England, Labour has been destroyed over the period of a general election and the subsequent local ones.

Does this mean that Labour is about to go the way of the old Liberal party? If so, what will fill the void? The two Celtic parts of the UK are still voting for hard-line socialist parties – the SNP will probably cling on by the skin of its teeth despite having passed draconian laws limiting free speech. It seems that such things aren’t important to people. But they never are until they get bitten by them. Liberty is only valued when it is lost.

Labour did fairly well in Wales – again, what is wrong with these people? Drakeford has been appalling during this past year and yet still people vote for his party.

In England we have a Conservative party that has abandoned conservatism. Boris Johnson will now feel empowered by these results and see it as a validation of his performance – which, frankly, isn’t much better than Mark Drakeford’s. There is talk of ten more years. And what is there to challenge it?

We are doomed.

  1. Step 1: destroy Labour
Step 2: Conservatives split back into Whigs and Tories

PS: Lotus Eaters podcast on this topic was hilarious yesterday-https://www.lotuseaters.com/the-podcast-of-the-lotus-eaters-127-07-05-21

    • I listened to the linked podcast and found it quite amusing. When it comes to analysing how messed up the labour party is, I think that you need to take into account people like myself who are natural Conservatives but refuse to vote for the current Tory party as they no longer represent me. Even though the Conservative party is alienating its own voter base, Labour are still getting splattered. The message that came across repeatedly was that Labour candidates have no clue what they are doing wrong.

  2. When there’s only one narrative, and opposing views are considered bigotry, I concur.

I wish I was about 20 years older, then I’d only have a few more to see through.

  3. A Tory candidate being elected as MP for Hartlepool (my home town – the original bit, not the ‘West’ bit) did not show that Tory policies were preferred, but rather that the Tories were considered the least worst of the various political parties. I vaguely remember Cdr John Kerans (he of the Yangtze incident) as the Conservative MP, but can’t recall what, if any, good he did for the town. However, I do recall the devastating effects the policies of successive national governments, of both major parties, had on employment, investment, and the quality of life. Let’s hope that Johnson’s and Mortimer’s speeches have some beneficial effect.

    • The Labour candidate, Dr Paul Williams lost his Stockton South seat to the Tories in 2019 (having had it for one term). He’s an ardent Remainer and was instrumental in having health care services removed from Hartlepool’s hospital. That he popped up as the by-election candidate was an insult.

  4. Make you wonder about the Welsh. Drakeford always appears to be a half wit to me. As for wee Burney, i don’t think i’ll bother with Scotland again. Like many Englishmen i can’t wait for them to go. We can stop paying for them and watch them turn bankrupt.

    • Drakeford was summed up in that interview recently where he was talking about compulsory vaccination or passports – one or the other. He tried to give a politicians’ response and tied himself in knots. And, of course, trying to specify what “essential” meant.

  5. As a follow-up to this, the Lotus Eaters were going through the Twitter fallout and it is clear that Labour activists simply do not have a clue why they keep losing. Insulting the voters for not voting for them isn’t a winning strategy and they just don’t get it. Fuck you, scum, vote for me doesn’t seem to be working. Can’t think why.

    • Yep LR ! Its hilarious ! They haven’t got a clue. Bunch of woke twats.

    • I remember the night of the general election. One of the channels had this young, obviously middle class, screeching harpy on. “Fuck Boris Johnson” she screamed. “I hate Boris Johnson, I wish him the worst”. And then; “Fuck the working class. I hate the working class. The working class are disgusting”. And then the cherry on top. “I want to be a doctor. I want to work in the NHS”. Excuse me? Bitch, I wouldn’t want you working as a vet. The point is though, that young woman typified the kind of person that now infests the Labour party. Ignorant, entitled, emotionally and politically immature and absolutely no respect for democracy. Labour has not been the party of the working class since before Blair was leader. And it never will be while cretins like the one described above are members. They hate the UK, the British people and they hate democracy. They have no understanding of what the working class want or need, and they care even less.

      • Hasn’t it been the case that, right from its inception, the Labour party has been dependant upon keeping its voter base poor and ignorant? Aspirational working people who do well for themselves and pass the fruits of their successes onto their kids were likely to go on to support the Tories.

      • I saw a comment on Farcebook that went – “If you are in Hartlepool and you plan to vote Tory, stay home, save lives, save the NHS.”

So, if you have a different political opinion, you shouldn’t express that opinion at the ballot box. Nice.

      • @Pete
Can you remember which channel? Any Video?

  6. Of course if you only allow people that agree with you to even speak at all, you are going to become ever more detached from real life, real people and what those people actually want. The problem, as I see it, is that Labour being so out of touch means that the Conservatives don’t have to try. If they were forced to provide small, hands off, low tax government in order to get elected, then there is a small chance that it might actually happen. If they were forced to direct police resources toward the crimes that do the most harm, then it might happen. If they were forced to ditch all the insane zero carbon nonsense, then it might happen. As it stands they can do just as well just by being slightly less atrocious than the opposition.

  7. Drakeford has been appalling during this past year and yet still people vote for his party

Very true, as has Sturgeon yet still people vote for her party

    Why?
BBC Scotland & BBC Wales along with localised MSM (The Scottish Sun etc) speak no evil about them, but hail them as heroes

The only paper that reported (front page) on SNP Gov’t sending patients back to care homes After testing Positive was The Sunday Post

BBC, Labour and metro-lefties hate UK & England and welcome it’s destruction

Have a listen to the bilge BBC World Service broadcasts from midnight to 5am

We’re doomed unless we fight back as Hartlepool has done

PS: Labour – Remainer leader, Remainer candidate (kicked out by Stockton in 2019) in a Leave constituency

imo Labour happy to be opposition. Boris is doing everything they want and more
