The UK is likely to see a “summer surge” in Covid cases as lockdown is relaxed, a government scientist says.

Prof Adam Finn, of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, says modelling points to a rise in cases, as many adults are not immunised.

Stopped reading. These arseholes are still using models and calling themselves scientists.

  2. Numbers of cases are easy to manipulate. Deaths and hospital bed occupancy not so much. I’m confident that Prof Finn’s predictions will be made to come true.

    There is also one for this year. COVID19 was made a notifiable disease in March last year. ALL cases must be reported (they are generally on page 14 of each document. Take w/e 20/12/20, the official statistics show an average of over 37,000 cases, (https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases) the total of notified cases by PHE is 50! Yes that’s right 50. Now I would be grateful if someone could explain the difference.

  4. The 37,000 cases refers to the whole of the UK, the 50 is for England, so that would mean of 37,000 in the other nations.

  5. Isn’t there a spare geographer who could be seconded to SAGE and explain that we are in the Northern Hemisphere where respiratory illness increases in autumn and winter?

  9. I’m a scientist. I based my thesis on hard data I obtained by experimentation. But that’s how it is in physiology and biochemistry. You draw conclusions from results of experiments. Models are usually derived from some data plus best guess supposition or scenarios. That isn’t real, hard science.

    World Mortality Dataset and the Human Mortality Database, shows that the country with the highest number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in the world is not Brazil but its South American neighbour, Peru, which has an unenviable 412 excess deaths per 100,000. Brazil, by comparison, stands at 183 deaths per 100,000, which is not only less bad than Peru, but also less bad than neighbours Bolivia, at 203 per 100,000, and Ecuador, at 281 per 100,000.

    Last year excess deaths from the late onset pandemic had dropped to normal summer levels by the beginning of June, 7 weeks before that nice Mr Johnson imposed face nappies on the Great British Public, in his continuing abuse of the same.

    Apart from malice or wishful thinking, there is no reason to suppose that that will not be repeated this year: all-cause deaths have been around normal since the end of February.

    The graphs of all-cause and excess mortality do not support a claim for a resurgence of deaths from covid. Deaths from vaccination might become problem.

    ‘Cases’ are another matter: these can be manufactured to order. Subject a sample to enough PCR cycles and it will confess to anything.
