The New Normal

Ripper mentioned this in the comments, but I link to it here as well. Meanwhile

Crowds have been gathering outside shops and pubs across England as coronavirus restrictions ease to allow non-essential stores, beer gardens and outdoor restaurant dining to reopen.

That’s good, isn’t it?

A member of the government’s Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (Spi-M) has warned the easing of restrictions could lead to a “resurgence” in coronavirus infection rates – while prime minister Boris Johnson urged people to “behave responsibly”.

It’s a winter virus. As we get into the summer, it will pretty much vanish, reappearing in the autumn, in exactly the way the flu does. We cannot eradicate this disease, just as we cannot eradicate flu. We have to live with it and carry on. But we still have restrictions on our lives based on this nonsense because there are morons who believe that zero covid is a possibility. They claim to be following “the science.” There is no such thing as “the science,” and anyone using the phrase tells me that they do not understand how scientific principles work. If they were being scientific, they would acknowledge that the events of the past year have blown their hypothesis out of the water. Masks don’t work, antisocial distancing doesn’t work, using hand sanitiser doesn’t work and lock-downs don’t work. We have a wealth of experience now that tells us what some of us suspected all along – none of the measures that are supposed to “keep us safe” or “save lives” are any use whatsoever – the slogans merely being the vacuous wind-breaking of the likes of Half Whitty and his sidekick Unbalanced, repeated ad nauseam by equally vapid politicians and cretinous journalists, but still we get it being peddled and still people blindly fall for this anti-scientific junk. It is not science, it is a religion. All hail the great and glorious NHS, blessed be the pacemakers, for the public sector shall inherit the Earth.

And meanwhile Oops!

Patients worried about blood clots after having the AstraZeneca vaccine are swamping hospital A&E departments, doctors have warned.

After new evidence of an emerging link between the vaccine and very rare blood clots, emergency departments across England have reported a surge in patients worried they may be affected.

A&E clinicians quoted in the Health Service Journal said their departments were “swamped” with patients attending with headaches and said some had been sent their by local GPs.

On Thursday UK regulator the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said anyone who reported a severe or persistent headache that did not respond to painkillers, four days after receiving the vaccine, should speak to their doctor.

Other symptoms to watch out for include a shortness of breath, chest or persistent abdominal pain, leg swelling, blurred vision, seizures or unexplained pin prick rash or bruising away from the injection site.

No one I know has had this, but given my own experience of NHS treatment going wrong, I’d be the one who did, so it’s probably just as well I declined. And, no, for those who might make the comment – it is not irresponsible to make this point, nor does it display a lack of concern for others. My concern is reserved for the people who died due to late diagnosis and treatment, for those who have lost businesses, livelihoods and jobs and for those who have suffered mental health problems this past year – and I am not exempt from that, living alone in what has been pretty much solitary confinement for nearly a year. Thank goodness I can start to work again this week.

I unreservedly despise our government and the SAGE advisers who have led them down the path to totalitarianism – with especial derision and hatred for Pantsdown Ferguson, Half Whitty and Unbalanced.

  1. I am absolutely certain that there will be a third wave of positive cases. Cases have confirmed the narrative throughout. Deaths and hospital beds occupied are harder to fake and consequently, have not confirmed the narrative. Which is why Johnson has been so resolute in ignoring the data and sticking to his pre-ordained dates.

  2. In response to the AZ vaccinees going to A&E, I heard an NHS spokesperson say that they really shouldn’t – the NHS is “exhausted” (!!!) instead they should go to their GP and anyway blood clots are very rare….
    Exhausted?? when the only department open in a year has been the ‘covid department’;
    Either GPs are worried enough to refer to A&E or they’re still hiding from their patients;

I read the report that Ripper linked to this morning before going for my first AZ dose. I must be one of the most reluctant vaccinees they’ve had. The post-vac leaflet describes unpleasant side effects which are either very common or common and it’s hardly surprising if people are worried that they may be indicative of a serious side-effect – but, God forbid, we bother the NHS!

    • How does things proceed with Government projects? Ah, yes:

      Enthusiasm.
      Disillusionment.
      The search for scapegoats.
      Persecution of the innocent.
      Rewards for the guilty.

      Er…that’s it!

  3. Did you know the Walberswick Harbour Ferry requires passengers to wear a mask? And that’s while sitting in an open wooden boat, during a hand-rowed trip which takes (dependant on the tide flowing) at most 5 minutes!!! The signs claim “Due to government requirements”, but I don’t believe that, particularly as the guy wielding the oars wasn’t wearing one. And neither was Kate Humble when she tried rowing across in one of her recent “Coastal Walks” TV programmes.

“I unreservedly despise our government and the SAGE advisers who have led them down the path to totalitarianism”

After observing several muzzled people walking about the countryside this sunny afternoon, I couldn’t agree more, particularly as some of them were in their teens or early 20’s…

  4. Of course if there is another wave it will be the public’s fault for enjoying their freedom too much.

  5. “Masks don’t work, antisocial distancing doesn’t work, using hand sanitiser doesn’t work and lock-downs don’t work.”

Well something seems to be working against flu. The disease that almost, but not quite, brings the Envy Of The World™ to a state of collapse every year has been absent this winter.

    • May to Aug last summer more were dying with summer ‘Flu than Covid
      May x5
      June x8
      July x12
      Aug x10

September it vanished: NHS, ONS, PHE reclassified Covid, ‘Flu etc into one group with Covid conveniently first alphabetically

Whitty has postulated re-grouping into generic SAR illnesses to eradicate Covid

First Gov’t must stop the useless expensive testing regime – Gov’t is borrowing ~£7 Billion per week and burning ~£5 Billion per week on school testing alone

  6. Well something seems to be working against flu. The disease that almost, but not quite, brings the Envy Of The World™ to a state of collapse every year has been absent this winter.

    Yup.
Labelling any respiratory infections as Covid will do that.

  7. What about the bodies piling up waiting for a funeral slot?
    What about the mass graves?
What about the huge increase in deaths?
They’re probably suppressing that in case it causes panic.
    As John would say- IABATO

  8. “.. living alone in what has been pretty much solitary confinement for nearly a year..”

My sympathies. I recently read about what happens to ants when they are isolated from their colonies: https://www.newyorker.com/tech/annals-of-technology/lonely-ant

While not comparing you to an ant, it’s easy to underestimate the effect of isolation on any creature. Personally, I’m much more misanthropic than I was a year ago.

  9. Good one: Journo on perspective

“Yes, 850 died of Covid recently in a day, but 27,000 die every day in India”
“Governments, international organisations and mainstream media continue to drum up fear and panic in India,” says Sanjeev Sabhlok in the Times of India, “even as the facts entirely contradict their claims”
    https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/blogs/seeing-the-invisible/yes-850-died-of-covid-recently-in-a-day-but-27000-die-every-day-in-india/

Over a year and still waiting for UK msm to say ~1,688 die every day in UK… and it’s not news
