Oh, But They Are

Gove is complaining about the 100 Tory rebels.

In an attempt to quell a restless Tory backbench, Michael Gove today warned dozens of potential rebels to put Britain’s interests first, urging MPs to ‘take responsibility for difficult decisions’ to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Gove seems to forget something here. Their responsibility is not to government, nor is it to party, it is to the electorate and given that we are being damaged by this insane government, they are doing the right thing by rebelling.

Back in March, the “three week” lock-down was supposed to create breathing space to prepare sufficient ICU capacity for the suspected surge in cases based upon a flawed computer model. They almost had a case for that.

Since then, the rhetoric has changed and we see it above in Gove’s comment. It is not within government purview to contain the spread, to stop the spread or to beat the virus. Their job was done back in May. Yet here we are with vandals wrecking the country all for the sake of being too cowardly to recognise and admit they were wrong.

  1. I assume, perhaps wrongly, that Gove is honest in taking the position he does. Granting him that, his remark is still a gratuitous and cheap insult against those MPs who take their responsibilities every bit as seriously as he does but have reached a different conclusion. I believe time will show, really quite soon, that it is the enthusiasts for lockdown who were irresponsible.
