Nope

I decline the irresistible offer.

More than one million people have downloaded the government’s contact-tracing app for England and Wales within its first day of release.

That’s not exactly a huge amount.

Anyone aged 16 and over is being asked to install it. The government plans to give its own download tally on Monday.

Okay. You asked. Now take the sex and travel option.

And there was some confusion about whether users could ignore a notification telling them to stay at home.

Oh, you do surprise me.

Mr Hancock told BBC Breakfast: “That self-isolation is voluntary, unlike the mandatory self-isolation if you are called by NHS Test and Trace.”

I suppose their inconsistency is itself consistent. If there is no compulsion as with the track and trace, there’s no point. Not that I am advocating this, of course.

But the Department of Health had earlier said that users must obey the command and would in theory be liable for fines of £1,000 or more if they did not, while acknowledging it had no way to check.

A senior source has since told the BBC that the notification is “advisory” because the authorities cannot legally enforce something that cannot be proved.

The sheer idiocy on display is reaching new lows. It’s voluntary – no, it’s mandatory, but we can’t check.

What is the point? Really, what is the point? I thought this country elected a Conservative government last December. Whatever happened to the Conservative party? The one that was fiscally competent and had a core of classical liberalism about its soul?

  1. You nailed it and I don’t trust app won’t have back door spying – collecting IMEI for one

    And
    – Bluetooth only works well in labs – another fail
    – Scan QR at pubs etc, no paper filling needed. Err, owner then breaking law by not collecting contact details – another fail

Governed by infants who know nothing and speechless when facts revealed

What has new app cost? Another £10 Billion?

  2. Now that this virus is becoming more and more harmless, surely the best way to be rid of it is for as many as possible to be infected with it. The supposed infection rates are now as high as they have ever been but daily deaths are in the 30s. That is if any of these numbers can be taken seriously at all.

    • Covid death rates are now only twice that of the suicide rate for 2018 which was 17 deaths per day. With the stresses caused by the unnecessary lockdowns I would imagine that this year’s suicide rate will be much higher than 2018.

I agree with LR that one million idiots downloading this app is pitiably small. I’m not going to download it and neither are members of my family whom I’ve spoken to.

Oh and have people seen our Burbling Authoritarian speaking at the Climate change meeting with the UN. It looks as if Boris Johnson has hired Joe Biden’s speechwriter. See https://www.fahrenheit211.net/2020/09/25/we-wanted-a-british-trump-instead-we-got-this/

      • 810 weeks ago suicides had increased by 200%. Probably even higher now, especially as we have another six month {what happened to 2-3 weeks?) and students banned from returning home now or at Christmas, visiting pubs, restaurants etc

Operation Moonshot: What do the leaked documents say?

Are there any plans to get the public on board?
The documents show that there have been discussions over how to incentivise people to be tested. They point to enforcing testing “via a sanction-based model” or through “offering individuals opportunities/access from being tested,” such as being able to attend events.

    What is a digital passport?
Testing for access to certain spaces features heavily in the documents, with reference to “immunity/virus free passports,” likely to be available through an app. The plans say that testing could be used to “give people assurance that, at least for a limited time, they are unlikely to have the virus and are at low risk of transmitting it to others.”

They say, “A negative test result (or potentially a positive antibody result) may inform not just whether you could attend an in-patient appointment, but if you go to work that day, access a venue, get on a flight or visit an elderly relative.” The documents also point to a “significant expansion” of testing funded and delivered by the private sector, such as in football stadiums to allow access.

There seems to be no limit to the depth that these fuckers are prepared to sink to.

      • It can’t. Most people think that the Government is doing its benevolent best to contain the deadly virus that could potentially kill us all. Any suggestion that they might be up to something more sinister Marks you out as a paranoid loon. You know how the script goes, the masses don’t catch on until it’s too late.

  4. The same shit applies to the gradual squeezing out of your ICE car. They can make the emissions tests on your MOT more and more strict until it is forced off the road. What are you going to do? You could just drive it anyway, put spoof number plates on it, carry a baseball bat and beat to death any copper who pulls you over, would that work? If enough people did that then they could just make it impossible for you to get fuel for it. The end game for the imposition of electric cars is for the common people to be denied personal transport. It was nice while it lasted but do you really think that you will be able to afford an electric car once the taxpayer isn’t being forced to stump up for half the purchase price? Even if you can afford it you won’t be able to charge it when there isn’t any wind and electricity is rationed. There was a time when an incompetent and malevolent government could be voted out of office. Now there are no sane choices.

  5. My instructions to download the NHS app came to my stupid phone which can’t access the internet let alone download anything.
Is it legal for my GP Practice, a private company contracted to the NHS, to share my contact details with a third party ?
I will resist for as long as possible, I can live without pubs and restaurants, even supermarkets but if they bring petrol stations in it will make life very difficult.

    • Petrol stations will make it difficult. Pay at pump might be an alternative. I’ve now got a phone where the major petrol retailers’ apps will work.
