Slowly, Slowly…

Little by little, we are seeing stories about the Covid 19 panic that confirm what we already suspected – that this was a bad flu year. Sure, Covid 19 is particularly nasty if you get a high viral load, but for the vast majority, it is something we can survive okay.

We have been subjected to stories about permanent lung damage. However, this is not peculiar to this variant of the corona virus. Other strains will do the same. Again, it does depend upon variables such as viral load.

The vast majority of those who succumbed to this disease were already knocking on death’s door. The panic and big scary numbers quoted out of context disguised what was really going on.

What we have seen, therefore, is this:

  • We’ve had an excess winter death rate this year that compares with previous bad years such as 1999/00. Except we had it in the early spring.
  • Of those exposed, the majority of people will be asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.
  • Now they realise that we have a degree of built in immunity. Of course we have, it’s how our immune systems work.
  • The kill rate is less than 1%. Not much more than seasonal flu, then.

And for this, we have trashed the economy, thrown thousands of people out of work, ruined lives and installed a totalitarian dystopia that George Orwell could only have dreamed of.

Despite the hysteria being whipped up by the media and the government in order to soften us up for this social control, some of us remained sceptical and defiant. For this we were castigated in the MSM and on social media. We didn’t take “safety” or the glorious NHS seriously and were risking peoples’ lives (utter fucking emotionally incontinent bollocks, the lot of it). It is beginning to look as if we are going to be proved correct – even if they will never exonerate us for our wrongthink.

What I do know is this: We need some accountability here. PHE needs to go. But not just them. Heads need to roll in government, Imperial College and the media. A few heads displayed on spikes outside Traitor’s Gate might be what is needed to concentrate the feeble minds that exist within these institutions that actions have consequences.

  1. I totally agree with you Longrider. All the nanny state quangos need to go. Particularly PHE and ASH.

  2. Let’s hope that Sedwill’s defenestration is a mere precursor to the cleaning of the Augean stables.

  3. I noticed yesterday that the incompetent unepidemiologist Ferguson is still managing to get his worthless opinions onto broadcast media. When will the buffoons in programme commissioning learn?

      • In fairness, I raised this exact issue with the editor of AccountingWeb and his response was that although he didn’t agree with Richard Murphy, he was a great generator of content and intense debate. The commentariat over at AccountingWeb (being mostly high street accountants and some corporate management accounting types), told Richard Murphy that he was an idiot without any compunction.

So there you go. Fills in the spaces between the adds is the general view of one journal editor.

        • Actually, I can see their point. Not much has changed since we used to throw rotten cabbages at the poor sod in the stocks.

  4. Where I work I have the opportunity of speaking with a wide variety of people. On Monday 29th June I spoke with a man who runs 6 funeral businesses in Cornwall. This was disclosed in a general chat about The Virus. The basic message from him was “Where are all the bodies?” His businesses had not had to deal with any excess numbers.
The second person I spoke with on the same subject told me that he was the Mortuary Manager for our local hospital. The three refrigerated containers which had been deposited in his hospital grounds were taken away after three weeks. The number of bodies the mortuary had to deal with did not increase, it stayed at about thirty a week, just has it had been for a number of years. His message was the same. Where are all the bodies?
Has anyone bothered to try and query the morticians country-wide?

    • Likewise, a large unit at an out of town industrial park (former quarry I believe) was early designated the Covid mortuary/mass body storage facility, it was never used. Being out of sight out of mind perhaps it was never even operational.

  5. I remember at the start of Lockdown the beeb forever going on about how particularly horrible dying from Covid was, none of the health workers I have spoken to in three months have mentioned it.

From the weekly graph analysis of ONS over at Hector Drummond it has become increasingly likely that the All Deaths annual toll will be much the same as usual.
I recently saw a comment saying that the death rate of those hospitalised was 6% initially but now 1.5%. That means either the disease is becoming less deadly, they have found a miraculous new way of treating it or they are hospitalsing more people to bump up the scary numbers since cases and deaths are so few.

The beeb are now concentrating on blaming each and every piece of economic bad news on The Global Pandemic, I remind anyone I am with that it’s not the pandemic to blame it’s Lockdown.

Just visited the website of our large local Weatherspoons, looks like going for a night out in the biology lab but, on the bright side you will be “invited” to register for Track’n’Trace as you exit.

    • That means either the disease is becoming less deadly”, which is exactly what happens. The super-spreaders are those who have the disease but show zero to mild symptoms, those that are killed (or even hospitalised) by more severe strains of the disease aren’t going about shopping.

Thus the more serious strains get killed off quickly by their own deadliness and the milder strains just join the rest of the generic cold/flu that causes temporary misery to most and still kills the older and weaker.

As for the pubs, give it a week or two of good business and all this COVID-19 and PPE stuff will disappear, with just forms and leaflets by the door and floor stickers demanding “Keep Your Distance” (and being ignored) as a gesture.

      • “Thus the more serious strains get killed off more quickly by their own deadliness…” Indeed, just like Ebola which doesn’t travel far and why the most successful Coronovirus in the History Of The World is the common cold since it is rarely harmful so has been around forever.

      • Yet if I dared to say this out loud, I would be vilified by the true believers. You can at least see them as they are the ones wearing face nappies. (H/T Carl Vernon).

      • Lately I have seen more people in masks in the supermarket that at the height of the lockdown, maybe they have been sheltering behind the sofa all this time and are only now emerging to forage.
Depressing playing croquet today to discover that the three other players seemed to be take the ‘guidance’ seriously.

    • Yes. We’ve had the equivalent of a bad flu season. The only real oddity being the timing – early spring rather than mid winter.

      • It was the beginning of winter when it “appeared” in China. The currently identified patient zero in Wuhan, Wei Guixian came down with a cold at the Wuhan wet market on December 10th 2019 and was admitted to Wuhan Union Hospital on December 16th 2019.

This being China though all information is suspect.

        • I also suspect the assertion that it didn’t arrive in the UK until 2020 as there have been a number of people who have suffered the main symptoms as far back as late November 2019. It peaked here in March. Which for this type of virus is a little unusual.

          • My wife had the symptoms in December 2019. She is still wondering if it was Covid-19 that she caught. If it was then if I got it, I had no symptoms at all. I said from the outset of idiocy in the UK that for most people it will be mild and we should only lock down the usual suspects with one or more co-morbidities. I sounded off and predicted 50,000 deaths not caused by the virus directly but underlying conditions pushing them off this mortal coil early. I have a professional interest as a medical microbiologist. Also it does depend how you count the patients. If we counted them like Germany we would have had about 3000 deaths due to the actual virus itself.

  6. The Spiteful Nannying Party are worried the economy might recover before they could blame the eeevil tories, so are going to sabotage any recovery of shops or tourism by making muzzles mandatory.
