How About…

Telling the police commissioner to fuck off?

The UK government may have ‘rushed’ announcing the relaxation of lockdown measures to help ministers ‘in a difficult position’ after the Cummings affair, a police and crime commissioner said today.

Northumbria’s Labour Police and Crime Commissioner Kim McGuinness said the government’s pre-announcement on Thursday was a political move to help those feeling the heat of the fallout from Dominic Cummings’ apparent breach of lockdown.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. Either way this insanity has to stop and the sooner the better. If Cummings’ escapade has triggered a chain reaction that brings this dreadful lock-down to an end, then that’s a good thing. We need to be getting back to work and living our lives normally

Looking back over this past few weeks, I am amazed at the behaviour of the world’s populations. The willingness to cower cravenly in the face of a virus that, while more virulent than seasonal flu, has only a slightly higher kill rate.

As for all those virtue-signallers lamenting the deaths and the need to stay home and save lives… Where were they during the winter of 1999/00 when 48,000 people died or again in 2014/15 when 44,000 people died? Because if they didn’t stay home to protect the vulnerable and “save lives” they are either fools or hypocrites (both is a possibility).

Covid-19 has a somewhat more rapid infection rate than seasonal flu due to the long incubation period, but we knew what was coming back in December. Plenty of time to beef up ICU capacity and then let nature take its course. But, no, the country had to follow all the other countries who ran scared of this thing and hide under the duvet until… Until when, exactly? It’s gone away? Well, that will be forever, then. Until we have a vaccine? It’s an RNA virus, so any vaccine will only be partially effective, so, again, forever, then.

The bubonic plague, this is not. With a death rate of less than 1%, it is a mere amateur compared to the black death’s 30+%.

So, I don’t care one jot what Kim McGuinness thinks about why the government is making its announcement – that it is, is the important bit. I am prepared to take my chances, just as I take my chances with all the other pathogens out there on a daily basis. If you want to hide away until the naughty virus has gone well good luck to you, but don’t try to force me to do likewise. And don’t regale me with your emotionally incontinent shroud waving either, or I’ll ask why you weren’t shedding crocodile tears back in 1999/00 and 2014/15.

And Kim McGuinness? Oh, do fuck off. Why do we have these waste of spaces anyway? A political post that serves no useful purpose. Get rid of them.

  1. Kim McGuinness is a British Labour politician who has been the police and crime commissioner for Northumbria since a by-election on 18 July 2019.

Yet another Labour politician trying to use her position to undermine a government she doesn’t agree with. If we are going to get Police and Crime Commissioners then they should be required to be truly independent and apolitical. This would have similarly excluded useless failed politicians like Vera Baird QC (Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner).

Far better to have ordinary people without political bias acting on behalf of local people.

I’d add ‘don’t ask me to pay for it, either’. I hear there are a good few who are only to pleased to be paid to sit at home with Netflix and their Playstation.

  3. There are plenty of people happy to be out and about, just not going to work. The roads during not rush hour have plenty of vans and lorries but very few private cars. Come lunchtime the High St is moderately busy with couples and families doing whatever.

Whenever someone says ” oh it’s never been like this in my lifetime” I reply yes it has, 2, 3 or 4 times (depending how old I judge them to be), Covid19 mortality is turning out to be much the same as any bad flu season, about 40,000. Can you remember the last bad flu season? No you can’t because they didn’t give it a scary name and shut the country down. Some give it pause for thought and carry on the conversation, others eyes glaze over since I’m not confirming their despondency.

Out of town Subway is open WoW, my first paid for coffee in two months. The masked Romanian girl and I recognize each other, she tells me they have been open for three weeks. I tell her the reason I hadn’t noticed was because the outside tables (8) and chairs were still absent. “It’s the Covid” she shrugged.
Wtf is wrong with 1 chair to each table to let me enjoy my coffee in the sunshine ? ( and the toilets were closed off, why is that? They are open in the hospitals).

    • I think in years to come, this will be vindicated and the various governments roundly condemned for their panic reactions – and the press for stoking it.

  4. Damn David Cameron for many things, but especially for raising my hopes by promising us a ‘bonfire of the quangos’ when he clearly had no intention of even establishing a sub-committee to explore the possibility of looking into the diversity impact considerations of inviting tenders for the supply of a match. The number of parasites I would want to see immolated grows daily and must run into the millions. Now you’ve kindly alerted me to another name to be added to the list.

    • If there were a kind of Thatcher type character who had the will to disband them all and sack thousands of worthless parasites, would it just be political suicide? It seems to me that the vast majority enjoy having the government telling them what to do and changing their nappies for them.

… Ending police & crime commissioners

They’ve proved to be nothing but a waste of taxpayers money

As Cameron & Osborne hate Johnston already, there’s no reason not to

Where were they during the winter of 1999/00 when 48,000 people died or again in 2014/15 when 44,000 people died?

Spot on and lockdown not considered

“It’s all exaggerated. It’s an acute respiratory disease with minimal mortality,” he told television personality Ksenia Sobchak in the interview for her YouTube project.

“Why has the whole world been destroyed? That I don’t know,” Myasnikov said”

    @John Galt

Normal/ordinary people don’t want to do these fake jobs, best to abolish police & crime commissioners and their staff, perks etc
