Here Be Dragons

We like to think of ourselves as an enlightened species. Intelligent and developed. Yet there is a wealth of observable evidence that suggests this is not the case.

Scientists have condemned the spread of conspiracy theories that claim 5G technology is responsible for the current health pandemic.

5G phone masts have reportedly been deliberately set on fire and abuse directed at engineers in recent days. Several videos of burnt masts have been shared on social media, to the dismay of those trying to counter misinformation and myths at this difficult time.

Scientists have explicitly said the notion that there is any connection whatsoever between the spread of the virus and 5G is no more than ‘complete rubbish’, as well as being a fundamental biological impossibility.

Well, yes, but that this needs saying is disturbing. You would have to be pretty dense to believe these conspiracy theories, yet the video I shared a couple of days back tells us that there are plenty of idiots out there who will believe any old claptrap.

I have never gone in for conspiracy theories for the simple reason that most of them are simply not rational and are easily deconstructed by Occam’s Razor. Also, the idea that a worldwide conspiracy has been going on, but people on Farcebook know all of the secrets is self defeating. But, still, people are willing to believe what is clearly fantasy. And as the linked article point out, biologically impossible in this instance.

But then, there are people who believe that George W Bush masterminded the Twin Towers attacks. If you believe that, you will believe anything.

All this tells me that the hard-of-thinking are out there, they walk among us and they breathe the same air. Those who believed in witchcraft and demons were the sources of such things as pandemics or bad weather in the middle ages haven’t really gone away. They are still here, they are still dim and they still peddle their bullshit and they use the ballot box.

We are doomed.

  1. But then, there are people who believe that George W Bush masterminded the Twin Towers attacks. If you believe that, you will believe anything.

Yet somebody masterminded it, otherwise it couldn’t have happened. There are so many inconsistencies, is it not reasonable, without pointing fingers at any individual, to suspect that that somebody was on the inside, aiding those terrorists? The official investigation of 911 raised more questions than it answered.

As with everything, those tinfoil hatters always go way over the top to ruin sensible investigation, and I would wager that most of those work in the mainstream media. Those who have a sensible, logical approach to the subject are then lumped in with the tinfoil hatters.

I will say this, at the risk of being ridiculed, I’ve been into electronics since the early 70’s, and its quite rational to believe that the frequencies that 5G uses do have an effect on brain function. They are pretty high in the microwave spectrum and have been known to affect small animals such as birds. However in a 5G installation these frequencies run at very low power, so its difficult to say. I think that there is some hysteria because 5G has been rolled out without proper testing. Even so, I don’t think that a cable buried underground would harm anything, so the woman in the video is clearly misinformed. But even smart meters and wi-fi have an adverse effect on some people’s health.

    • Anyone who thinks that GWB could mastermind anything beyond finding his arse with both hands and a map needs to seriously think bout their reasoning powers. Okay, I exaggerate for the sake of rhetoric, but you get my point.

Of course someone masterminded it. No one disputes that, but all the bollocks about the security services setting charges at the behest of the government. Nah.

I recall people seeing something sinister in the time discrepancy in a BBC report and the third tower collapsing. Clearly, those pointing the finger have never tried to manage an incident. Timekeeping is one of the first things to suffer, despite incident managers doing their level best to keep a contemporaneous diary.

    • @Ripper

Bush’s reaction when he was told about 9/11 at a primary school is all that’s needed to disprove the conspiracy theory

        • I believe he reacted well, stayed calm to not provoke fear, but with hindsight visibly shocked and panic suppressed

Reports from after he left school imply security guys had to refuse to obey his panicky orders eg
“I must return to DC NOW”
“No Sir, we’re flying to Doomsday 747 with F16 escorts”

Security guys in that 10% cold and calm

I haven’t said anything about there being a conspiracy theory concerning Bush. Or anyone else for that matter. All I’m saying is that something else was going on, perhaps a hidden agenda with a few inside the security services. We’ve seen similar with the plot to impeach Trump, and over here, those that worked in the background to stop Brexit. We just don’t know and have no way of telling, apart from things that don’t add up. That’s what sparks the conspiracy theories. Two firemen, the last ones in the building claimed that they heard a rapid chain of explosions just before the building came down, which goes against the official explanation. Now whether you choose to believe those firemen or the US government is irrelevant, the opposing explanations show that something was wrong.

The WT7/BBC incident that LR talks about, yes mistakes can be made, but that report was live, the reporter was reporting the building as having collapsed, yet it was standing intact behind her as she spoke. It collapsed about 20 minutes after the report. To make an error with what time something happened would be acceptable to me, but not reporting an incident before its happened.

        • All I’m saying is that something else was going on, perhaps a hidden agenda with a few inside the security services.

Possibly, but likely to be fairly low level.

Now whether you choose to believe those firemen or the US government is irrelevant, the opposing explanations show that something was wrong.

The building was under immense stresses. As it collapsed, sounds like explosions wouldn’t be out of place. Doesn’t mean that there were actual explosives present.

To make an error with what time something happened would be acceptable to me, but not reporting an incident before its happened.

Given the chaotic nature of events, it’s entirely possible. It would be a simple matter in the heat of the moment to be talking about the wrong building. Cock-up is a more rational explanation than a conspiracy involving the BBC reporters. Always, always, look for the simple answer as that is the most likely to be true.

Anyway, I really don’t want to go down this particular rabbit hole. I’ve been there before.

          • It would be a simple matter in the heat of the moment to be talking about the wrong building

If you saw that report, live on TV as I did, you would have heard the reporter in studio ask what about the Salomon building – that is WTC7 which can clearly be seen behind the on site reporter, intact. Reporting that building as having already collapsed before it happened is impossible no matter how big the cock up.

As for politicians, 911 gave both Bush and Blair the excuse they needed to invade Iraq, contrary to the UN ruling. That may well be the simple answer you seek.

          • As I said, I’ve been down this rabbit hole. I’ve no desire to revisit it.

I see no conspiracy here and short of hard, verifiable evidence, I’m not going to change my mind. So best to leave it there.

          • I agree regarding Occam’s Razor: obviously someone planned the whole thing, but the excellent serial “The Looming Tower” painted a frightening picture of non co-operation between the CIA and the FBI, with the CIA being the villains, exhibiting hubris, obduracy and megalomania, and thus leaving the path wide open for the terrorists to achieve their goal.

The history of the CIA does little to dispel these damning ideas – after all, it was the CIA who reported to Washington after the Shah’s abdication that Khomeini’s return was harmless as he was just a dotty old cleric.

  2. I think Eric Idle said (sang) it best;

“So remember, when you’re feeling very small and insecure,
    How amazingly unlikely is your birth;
And pray that there’s intelligent life somewhere out in space,
‘Cause there’s bugger all down here on Earth!”

  3. Humans believe that they can think in the same way that chickens believe that they can fly. My belief in the goodness of human nature has certainly taken a hit over the last few weeks. Snitch hotlines and the fact that they get thousands of takers. The utterly stupid 5G conspiracy nuts. I’m beginning to understand why some people want to become a recluse.

But then there are the people who designed my phone and my sports watch which are both totally amazing. The guys who landed a robot on Mars. My digital piano. Motorcycles. Speyside whisky. So many brilliant human acheivements among the idiocy. I’m trying really hard to keep looking on the bright side of life.

  4. 5G kills believers? Pah, Flat Earthers vastly outnumber them, but they don’t burn and destroy things

I’d love to see a survey of 5G kills believers, bet they’re mostly
    – Labour/Green
    – XR supporters
    – Ban carbon, plastic etc supporters
    – Abortion supporters
