I have always admired cats. I like dogs - but I admire cats. Felines are an
aloof species, going where their fancy takes them and when. None of this going walkies
stuff for your mog, oh no.
Suffice to say, we keep cats. Not the odd one or two, mind. No, we currently live with nine and one freeloader. Bast gave birth in 1998 to four kittens and we kept them all. The father - Hamlet - used to hang around and added to the extended family. Then there's Sophie, mother in law's cat who stays with us when she's off globetrotting. Just to put you in the picture, Sophie is Nefertiti's mother. Nice to keep it in the family...

Our old ginger cat, Penfold departed this world sometime during the night of the 10th of November 2004. I think he suffered a stroke during the previous week and was certainly blind. Despite this he tried to carry on as best he could, taking a daily constitutional down our garden, through next door, up to the front and back into ours. Yesterday was different. After twenty minutes or so, he had not reappeared, so I set about looking. He was nowhere to be found. For a cat that doesn't go far, this was ominous. I just had a feeling. The following morning, I found him at the bottom of the garden and buried him under his favourite sunning spot. In the grand scheme of things, the death of a 17 year old cat who had a good long life isn't much - but he was our cat and we will miss him. | |||
