Labour of Love

Or hate, whichever takes your fancy. Now that the leadership contest of the Labour party is in full swing, it seems as if nothing is going to change.

Keir Starmer is the PLP favourite it seems. Jeebus! The man was an appalling DPP. Typical of the faceless suits who are so at home in government. He is seen as a centrist. Personally, I see him as the very thing I despise about politicians.

But here’s the thing, while the PLP might like him, I’m pretty certain that out in the heartlands, activists won’t. They will see him as a Blairite. So again, the deep division between the parliamentary party and the grass roots activists remains.

From the point of view of winning an election, Starmer is probably the best option they have got. However, as the leader is chosen by a ballot of the membership, I suspect another Corbynista to get the job.

I don’t have any skin in this fight, so can sit back, crack open the popcorn and watch the fun.

  1. I wonder if it’s MEPs who have given KS his numbers so far. They’ll be extinct in less than a month.

  2. Starmer is a trot in a suit and tie. Camouflaged like a snake. He is an extremist. I hope Long-Bailey wins and Rayner is deputy. Wilderness for a couple of decades.
