Simple Solution

The offenderati don’t like Roy Chubby Brown because he is racist, sexist and “highly offensive” apparently. Can’t say myself, I’ve not seen his act – probably not my cup of cocoa. But then, so what? Apparently he was banned from performing in Middlesbrough, which in itself is a disgrace in what is supposed to be a free country.

That ban has been lifted, but not without controversy.

The head of Middlesbrough Town Hall resigned in protest at the town’s mayor lifting a ban on controversial comedian Roy Chubby Brown, it has emerged.

Mayor Andy Preston made the decision in August, and Lorna Fulton, who had run the council venue since May 2018, stood down in September as a result.

And, altogether now, oh, dear, how sad, never mind. No one has ever forced Ms Fulton to go and watch the act, so she is free to disapprove and not go. But she wanted to force other people not to go and that crosses a line. Good for Mr Preston in standing firm here. Also, no one has forced Ms Fulton to resign. She chose to do so of her own free will in a fit of petulance because she was unable to force her will on other people. Good riddance, frankly.

As for Mr Preston:

If you find Chubby Brown’s act offensive, there’s a simple answer – don’t go to see him.

And that, in a nutshell, is what it’s all about. If you are likely to be offended, don’t attend. But you have no right whatsoever to prevent others from exercising their free will and attending if they so wish.

A small blow for freedom today. Make the most of it.

  1. The Streisand effect strikes again! Been straight to Youtube and bookmarked him. And I shall be telling my mates about him in the pub tonight!

  2. Chubby is extremely politically incorrect, and us “Northerners” think he’s great. His skit on suicide bombers is a joy 🙂

  3. Personally I think the guy’s a pillock. Hence, why I’ve never been to see one of his shows
Now I also think Lorna Fulton is a pillock

  4. I don’t suppose Fulton would have resigned if someone even more offensive, such as Corbyn or McDonnell had been booked to appear.
Attended a show that Chubby gave some years ago, with the proceeds (not just the profits, the proceeds) went to a charity involved in the treatment of injured Servicemen and women. Of course, there was no mention of his show in the media.
I only laughed once, started at his first joke and ended some time after his last joke. He just says what the majority of people are thinking, but daren’t say.

  5. Great comedian. I loved Bernard Manning too especially when he was taking the piss out of Jo Brand !

  6. Saw a bit of his act on a DVD. Every other word began with F. Not my thing so did not watch a lot of it. He is Royston Vasey and Roy Chubby Brown is his character.

  7. What dummies can’t comprehend is that other people are prepared to pay fair money to be offended by Brown.

I’m more offended by his description as a comedian. He stopped being properly funny about 20 years ago
