Anyone Do Maths?

The Grauniad gleefully tells us that the petition to revoke Article 50 has hit a million signatures. Wow!

More than a million people have signed a plea for article 50 to be revoked. The list of names grew so rapidly on Thursday that the parliamentary petition website crashed several times.

The petition began gaining signatures on Wednesday evening after Theresa May criticised MPs for not approving her Brexit deal. When the site first crashed on Thursday the petition had received almost 600,000 signatures and was growing at a rate of 1,500 a minute.

Only another seventeen million to go, then…

  1. What they are actually petitioning for is the end of democracy. Democracy can only work if those on the losing side accept the result of either elections or referenda. If the government can simply ignore the result of either then voting becomes meaningless and we will have descended into tyranny.

  2. I’d support “Revoke Article 50 and Leave with immediate effect”

Always suspected Article 50 was a poison chalice

Don’t forget, in May’s Surender Withdrawal Agreement, EU admits they have breached Article 50 by not agreeing a trade deal. UK Parl should sue EU, not accept.

    • It appears that all these laws and rules are only there to give the appearance of some kind of structured system of government. It seems that such rules can be ignored with impunity if they happen to be inconvenient.
