How Peculiar

Not that the three Conservatives have joined the Tiggers, but this:

She said: “The battle is over, the other side has won.

“The right wing, the hard-line anti-EU awkward squad that have destroyed every leader for the last 40 years are now running the Conservative Party from top to toe. They are the Conservative Party.”

This tells us just how far left the Overton window has taken the Conservative party. Those whom she calls the hard right are merely where the Conservative party always was and should be – on the centre right. The Overton window has slipped so far to the left that the Conservative party is now where Blair took Labour – the centre left. So they are adopting all the nasty identitarian politics beloved of the Islington champagne socialists. They represent no one – not their core constituency on the centre right and not the white working classes. Indeed, they represent themselves and no one else.

And now, it seems, that a determination to honour the outcome of a democratic vote makes one “hard right” in their eyes. And there was me thinking that it made someone a democrat – as opposed to an anti-democrat. And who knew that arch Brexiteer, Jeremy Corbyn was hard right. Well, you learn something new every day.

I see that Nigel Farage has come under fire from Tim Farron (who? – Ed) for suggesting that they now have a people’s vote. Those who criticised him (the cretin Farron – Ed) for not doing likewise when he left Ukip are both indulging in the tu quoque fallacy and missing the point. He is merely holding them to their own standards (not to mention Alinsky’s rules for radicals – hold the enemy to their own rules) – standards that he is not obliged to follow. Therefore, there is no hypocrisy on his part, but plenty on theirs.

  1. Fairly sure that MEPs are elected on a party list system so not so easy to stand down and create an election because one would assume that the next person on the list should take the seat which would also not be very democratic. Apples and oranges spring to mind…

  2. The right wing, the hard-line anti-EU awkward squad that have destroyed every leader for the last 40 years are now running the Conservative Party from top to toe. They are the Conservative Party.”

Erm… Ken Clarke and Heseletine saw off Maggie, the last true Conservative leader of the party and they were the dripping Wets. So pro EU it still hurts the whole country to this day…

  3. Orwellian Newspeak again aka lying

Notable that MSM has accepted Soubry’s “Hard Right” slur for ERG/Brexiters and using it everywhere – BBC, C4, DM….

Wonder how Northern Labour voters feel about MSM calling them “Hard Right”

    • As you can guess I’m reasonably left wing and tbh it’s hilarious and will appear to the man in the street as something that doesn’t compute…

  4. The Tory Party being on the right, I wish. It’s been about thirty years since we had proper Conservatives, ones that denounced socialists instead of trying to emulate them.
