Quelle Surprise

Whodathunkit?

A large minority of people in the UK believe multiculturalism has undermined British culture and that migrants do not properly integrate, according to some of the broadest research into the population’s attitudes to immigration.

The study, conducted over the last two years, also reflects widespread frustration at the government’s handling of immigration, with only 15% of respondents feeling ministers have managed it competently and fairly.

Didn’t see that one coming, did we? Multiculturalism is a really, really bad idea. If you move to another country, then you should be prepared to learn the language and adapt to the culture – that old “when in Rome” thing. When I moved to France, that’s precisely what I did. I had to interact with the French bureaucracy (and survived the ordeal) and I did it in French. I didn’t cover my face, I didn’t claim that I should have special treatment and I didn’t claim that my religious beliefs trumped the host culture.

It is outrageous that Britons are expected to adapt to incomers – it should be the other way around. It is appalling that hate laws and cries of racist or Islamofauxbia are used to silence criticism and dissent. And, frankly, people don’t like walking along the streets in their own home town surrounded by alien dress and language. This is not diversity, it is an invasion.

“The lack of trust we found in the government to manage immigration is quite shocking,” said Jill Rutter, the director of strategy for British Future.

Really? Where have you been?

Panel discussions regularly revealed negative views about Islam, with participants repeatedly mentioning Rotherham and Rochdale, where child sex abuse scandals were uncovered among groups of Asian men.

No! I don’t believe it! Never!

The report’s authors are calling for an official “national conversation” about immigration that would give people a chance to express their concerns “so anxieties are not driven underground or exploited by those seeking to stoke division”.

Good luck with that one. The rise in Ukip’s fortunes at the 2015 election were a response to that lack of conversation. What happened to it? Oh, yes, the progressives simply demonised people for being racist and Islamofauxbic. Those who voted to leave the EU were branded ignorant, racist and stupid. Of being populists (that is, democratic results the progressives don’t like) and literally Nazis.

So, yeah, nice idea. Let me know how you get on.

  1. Well I’m surprised.
“A large minority of people in the UK believe multiculturalism has undermined British culture and that migrants do not properly integrate…”
I’m surprised it’s a minority, multiculturalism has undermined British culture, it should be as near as damn it unanimous.

    • It’s a minority that will speak out about it. Most people like myself know that there would be consequences (such as loss of current job and future employment opportunities) if my views were known, not because those views are genuinely racist or whatever, but simply because the middle classes have decided that the working class viewpoints are “too white, too male and too racist”.

So I keep my views to myself except when on anonymous blogs and the like. If asked my views at work or in social events I simply say “I don’t really follow the news” and feign ignorance / lack of interest in whatever divisive topic is under discussion.

The spread of Cultural Marxist views about what determines “racism” or “criticism of protected classes” is too malevolent and widespread to risk involvement at this time. I just wish we could move from the current state of “too soon” to the future state of “too late” at least as far as the denizens of the left are concerned.

It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.”

      • “I don’t really follow the news”

*expects to see that one listed on’Top 10 Signs You Are Really A Racist’ any day now…

        • Possibly. Certainly the “Powers that Be” seem to want me to listen to their propaganda and pay for the privilege, based upon the threatening letters I get from the BBC pretending to be TV licensing each month.

I don’t have a television, don’t get any newspapers (not even free ones) and my radio hasn’t been turned on since England lost the semi-final of the World Cup back in July. So apart from the news that comes into view through the blogosphere “echo chambers” I read (like this one), my mind is closed.

Clearly I am a racist of the pointy white cloak variety whose sole past-time is erecting burning crosses in the gardens of the melanin enriched.

          😐

  2. The World is multicultural, that is why there are borders and different governments (and wars) to serve diverse, distinct societies with their own history, traditions, customs, economies and values.

Britain cannot be the World in miniature without internal borders, seperate governments, etc within.

The EU paradoxically is trying to destroy multiculturalism by removing internal borders, doing away with national identities and making everyone one single, ersatz European identity and culture under one government, flag and anthem.

    Funny old World.

  3. It’s much much more than 40%. Most people are scared to tell pollsters what they really feel just in case. Including me.

  4. I’m in that “large minority”. Am I shocked – only that it wasn’t a majority: what were preceding questions?

“This is not diversity, it is an invasion.” – Yep

    “When in Rome” – Yep
