On Writing

Leggy has produced the quarterly sales figures. Okay, we ain’t setting the world alight here, but I’m pleasantly surprised by the results:

Print book sales:
Blackjack  1
Ransom  2
Rebellion  2
Sinistre  1

Kindle sales:
Rebellion  6
Sinistre  1

Rebellion has done better than I expected and we are still selling copies of Ransom, Blackjack and Sinistré some eighteen months or so after publication. Like I said, neither of us are going to retire on the proceeds, but it’s pleasing enough anyway.

The next anthology is due to commence for October. I missed the last one as my personal life was full of distraction. And on that subject, some six months after the two bereavements, I am finding the loss more acute than it was at the time. That said, I intend to contribute this time around. I was in Ireland a couple of weeks back and the germ of an idea started to form based upon real happenings. Whether I’ll get more than one completed remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, I’ve pretty much finished plotting my next novel. It will be a detective story featuring one of my regular characters: Pascale Hervé. And here lies a conundrum I’ve been pondering. Nearly all of the short stories I’ve written about her have involved the supernatural. I’ve spent some while asking myself whether to include it in this novel. It would fit. In fact, it would fit very well. So it looks as if I’ll be crossing genres again – so once more I provide Leggy with a headache when it comes to categorisation. My plan is to make a start once I’ve got the short story out of the way and rattle it off over the winter in time for a spring publication.

The title? Oh, yeah. “Resolution”. You may be noticing a theme here…
