So, Tobacco Was Unique, Eh?

So much for the slippery slope fallacy.

A new analysis from investor network Farm Animal Investment Risk and Return (Fairr) Initiative argues that meat is therefore now following the same path as tobacco, carbon emissions and sugar towards a sin tax, a levy on harmful products to cut consumption.

Clearly someone was lying, weren’t they?

Let’s be clear here – this has nothing to do with health nor has it anything to do with climate. It is what it has always been about; puritans with a single agenda seeking to impose their own world view on the rest of us. They will use force where necessary.

Time to stop funding them. Not that we ever should have.

  1. Quite agree with you Longrider, this has been there agenda for a long time, commonly known as divide and conquer.

  2. “Time to stop funding them.”

Absolutely agreed, but how? Faced with a choice between left and very left, who would you vote for? The stop pissing tax-payers’ money up the wall party doesn’t exist. The prols think that government money grows on a magic tree. They cheer every time some Poly claims that he will solve all of their problems with a huge sack of other people’s money.

Socialism has replaced religion as the source of simple easy solutions to all of the ills of the world. The fact that it fails miserably every single time seems to elude the hard of thinking. I thought that the massive failure of the Soviet Union would have put the issue to bed once and for all but it appears not. Maybe we need Corbyn as PM just to remind the idiots what socialism is really like. The problem is, he will be able to blame the economic disaster on Brexit and the imbeciles will believe him and vote him back in. I’m considering Canada.

  3. They’re trying their best to get us on to insects. I keep hearing the sort of people you’d expect saying that they’re wonderfully nutritious. If they can get over the look of them they’ll market them as a health food for the weight conscious.

    • Popular snack in Bangkok, insects. The street sellers have a selection of deep fried grasshoppers, cockroaches, grubs, tarantulas, scorpions and more. Yum! For some inexplicable reason, I’ve never been tempted to try them…

  4. The worrying thing is that there are people out there – often otherwise seemingly sane and sensible people – who, despite everything they might usually say about politicians and the powers-that-be being duplicitous, dishonest, money-grubbing slimeballs – will nod sagely in agreement and calmly hand over their money, because “it will help them to cut down on [insert latest sin tax target]” The level of Doublethink in evidence amongst the general population these days is, quite frankly, terrifying.
