Mendacious Twattery

Apparently, according to this twat, voting Tory is for the uneducated.

There was a remarkable admission in Saturday’s Telegraph. One that many of us have intuited for a long time but never expected to see simply admitted by those behind the constant attempts to deceive people into supporting a Tory party that robs them:

Being unintelligent and uneducated helps you vote Conservative.

That wasn’t quite the phrasing used in the headline, but it was as near as makes no difference:

That’s right it wasn’t quite what it said, it is nothing like what it said. Indeed, as a stretch of logic and fact, it couldn’t be further from what was said if it was a completely different headline about another story entirely – but mendacity is what the left do best. What it said was indeed rather different. It does not mean that left-wing and educated naturally go together. What it means is that the longer one remains in academia, the longer one is exposed to the leftist propaganda that infests universities and schools, which is rather different from the Tories wanting an uneducated populace that will naturally vote for them. There is also an underlying snobbery in this silly piece that somehow university educated students are intellectually superior to those who choose vocational education and therefore naturally are left-wing (yet with all their education have failed to learn from the lessons of history – one of which is playing out right now in South America – and, yes, it is real socialism).

It’s entirely possible that those who do not go to university, preferring instead the vocational route, learn at an earlier age just how much of their hard-earned is pissed up the wall by government – and a Labour government will piss more of it and harder – leading to the possibility that having thought about it, those people working for a living decide, perhaps, that they would prefer a party in power that does not take so much of their income.

Unfortunately, that’s not the Tories, though…

I make no bones that I dislike the Tories – they are naturally authoritarian and in many respects far too similar to the socialists to be respected. However, when faced with such facile guff as this, I’m inclined to forgive them. After all, the one thing they have in their favour is that they are not Labour with the infantile student union politics that goes with them.

  1. The man’s a complete buffoon:- also an arrogant bastard to boot. Must be a recent arts graduate; such is his complete lack of contact with reality.

  2. ‘mendacity is what the left do best’

Back in my day (admittedly three decades or so ago), left-wing students were systematically taught the uses to which a distortion of the truth could be put – like many others, I spent evenings sitting at the feet of visiting activists learning about tactical voting, the straw man argument and how to shout an opponent down with, if necessary, false assertions – ‘by the time they check the facts, it’s too late’. The end, we were told, justifies the means, however morally repugnant we might privately find the tactics.

In my case, a moral upbringing began to reassert itself at this point and, like many others, I gradually parted company with the hard-core who were prepared to adopt any means necessary to bring about the fall of Thatcher and a new socialist Utopia. I’m inclined to think those who did not fall by the wayside, many of whom are now in high places, must be self-selected to tolerate tactics which many of us would find highly dubious.

  3. The irony is that its becoming increasingly obvious that a university ‘education’ confers nothing of the sort, and the so called ‘educated’ elite are in fact intellectually inferior to those who have not suffered the Leftist indoctrination that passes for tertiary education these days.

I suspect you’d get more accurate view of the world, a greater range of opinions and far more tolerance of alternative views on the average building site than the average student union.

  4. Obviously there are intelligent Tories. But vanishingly few intelligent brexiters. All of the pillars of the brexit case are transparently false so if you cleave to them then you must either be stupid or demented. Sovereignty? No sovereignty was lost by being part of the EU. The very fact that the UK can unilaterally leave should be enough to prove that. As for the trade arguments, well only s moron would think that walking out of the largest single market in the world and 53 FTAs would be positive for the economy. .

    • “No sovereignty was lost by being part of the EU”

You don’t seem to understand that while sovereignty is a theoretical concept, ultimately it only has any value if it allows to to do what you want to do in a practical sense.

If I voluntarily ask to be put in a straitjacket, while in it my freedom to move is limited. At any point I can ask for the straitjacket to be removed, but until I do, I am still restricted in my movements. If you have voluntarily given some of your freedom away, you have to ask for it back before you can exercise it.

      • It’s amazing how a man can actively support socialism, despite decades of evidence of its sheer nastiness and then have the effrontery to call other people stupid. Stephen never fails to amuse with his consistent fuckwittery.
