So What

Thoughtcrime.

More than four in 10 Britons still believe gay sex is “unnatural” half a century after homosexuality was partially decriminalised in the UK, a survey has found.

Forty-two per cent of people who have an opinion on the subject think gay sex is not natural, according to a YouGov poll for Pink News.

Forty-eight per cent believe primary school children should not be taught about same-sex relationships at school and 36 per cent disprove of gay men becoming parents by surrogate, adoption or other methods, the research found.

Pink News chief executive Benjamin Cohen described the results as “depressing”.

So what? As I said in the title. Do those who disapprove do anything about it? Do they persecute gay men or do they merely disapprove? If the latter, then so what? Why should anyone care about whether people think it unnatural? Are people not entitled to hold an opinion? Or is it that we must all hold the same, correct, opinion?

The Sexual Offences Act 1967 decriminalised sex between men aged over 21 in England and Wales.

And that, frankly, is what matters. It was appalling that homosexuals were prosecuted for being what they were. They are no longer prosecuted. They have every right to expect to be tolerated. They have no right to expect everyone to approve or celebrate. As long as they are tolerated, then that is all that is necessary. There will always be those who disapprove. Even strongly disapprove. There is nothing wrong with this. For our thoughts and opinions are ours and we are all different and we should not be obliged to comply with the Pink News’ expectations.

Get used to it.

  1. The people who say that gay sex is un-natural are factually incorrect as there are numerous examples of it happening within the natural world. Unlike humans other animals don’t get hung up about it. But you are correct, as long as people are not harming anyone, what they think is their own concern. I know it is not quite the same thing but a lot of people disapprove of people being atheists. Although beliefs about God aren’t as hard wired as sexual orientation, I still couldn’t force myself to believe in God any more than I could force myself to believe in mermaids. I can’t say that I’m depressed about the continuing existence of atheist-phobia.

Actually, the mermaids might have been a bad example, I think that I might have seen some. I’ve been watching the swimming championships on the telly and, as a keen swimmer myself, I am amazed at the speeds being posted.

  2. Completely agree. Some people just need to accept their war has been won and move on. Feminists also.
Having said that, gay sex by it’s very definition is unnatural. Men and women have specific sex organs for specific functions. That’s natural. Poking one of them where it was never intended to go is not natural.
Fine, be who you are and do what you want, but don’t pretend it’s what nature intended.

    • I have to say that I completely agree with your first sentence Bucko, you should have included the greens too.

Conceding that gay sex is indeed unnatural, why then single out the gays particularly? Being a thoughtful species, we humans have contrived to find all kinds of ways to make sex more pleasurable, straight people included. Straight people have also been known to indulge in anal sex. Also, oral sex, masturbation, including fingering and hand jobs, various battery operated devices that buzz, games that involve being tied up, acting out school punishments or dressing in certain ways. Non of this could be called natural either. Getting away from sex, wearing clothes, having surgery or riding a bicycle are all unnatural too.

      • Why single out gays? Are you asking me or the person who did the survey?
I commented on gays because that’s what the article is about, but you’re right with all your other comments.
It’s just that these modern ‘activists’ who are still fighting a war long past won, will say that being gay is completely natural and if you disagree, you’re a hateful bigot.
My arguement is, that you can get up to whatever you fancy, but don’t tell me it’s natural when it’s not and don’t tell me I’m a bad person for saying so

Slightly off topic, but I think there’s a reason for these people still fighting when it’s no longer necessary. At some point in the past, people did actually fight for their rights and make sacrifices and even risk their freedom doing so. These people should be admired for what they did and I think some people these days want a peice of that pie. They want that glory too, so they keep the issue going to pretend they’re also fighting the good fight

You could add anti-racism to the list.

        • Sorry, I wasn’t having a go at you specifically about singling out the gays, I meant people more generally. On the subject of wars that have already been won, could it be that the problem could be government funding? These campaigns have been providing a comfortable living for quite a few people who would be out of a job if they admit that the fight has been won.

          • Very true indeed. They are being paid to fight the fight and in a lot of cases paid quite hansomly. It’s quite an incentive, isn’t it 🙂

  3. Animals have same sex activities, but it is mainly for the same reason Big Bubba in Strangeways does. It alleviates sexual tension and is also a show of dominance over a weaker subject. Pigs have been known to gang rape a weaker pig purely because it’s weaker.
I do not have any problems with homosexual activities being accepted. I would only have a problem if it became compulsory!

    • a good reason to argue about accepting homosexuality as ok – is that they have not stopped there.
I suspect it was never their intention to do so.
Now the woes of ‘transgenders’ are being much touted. the idea that sex organs are irrelevant and you are the sex you think you are is now much promoted.
Smashing the patriarchy proceeds much apace. So don’t be so tolerant. You may think your are normal but can you prove it.

  4. Oh great, sticking your dick up someone’s arse, or vicy versy, is just as legal, and as lovable, as farting a huge, green, bean and salsa stinker in a crowded elevator.

  5. Well said. I think you have hot the nail on the head. Why should we comply with the stance Pink News takes? I don’t think anyone but the most deranged would advocate physically hurting anyone because of their sexuality. But we don’t have to approve it.
