Bung

Yeah, call it what you like, it’s a bung.

The Democratic Unionist party has agreed to support Theresa May’s minority government through a confidence and supply deal worth more than £1bn in extra funding to Northern Ireland over two years.

What else could you possibly call it? It’s a great big fat bribe. I don’t see it lasting. Really, I don’t. The whole snap election decision was a stupid idea and it’s come home to roost. Say what you like about Corbyn, he ran a tremendously effective campaign and destroyed May’s small majority. Now he reckons he’ll be prime minister in six months. Given that an awful lot of people seem to have fallen for the free money propaganda, I am beginning to think that the unthinkable will actually happen – the unelectable liability getting elected as PM. And we have Theresa May to thank for that one.

Great. Terrific.

Back to the future. Nineteen  seventies here we come…

  1. Whichever way you look at it, bunging the DUP a billion is a loit cheaper than trying to placate the spending demands of either the wailing, entitled SNP or thier chums in Plaid Clwyd.

And I’ve been amused today to hear that both the SNP and Plaid have today been reacting with utter outrage to discover that thier supposed Paddy allies are doing a deal, because “outrage” is all they’ve got and when you’ve spent the last 3 years in a state of continual outrage and anger, thier reaction will hardly bat an eyelid in Westminster. Serves them bloody well right.

  2. I don’t think you can exculpate the electorate if and when they vote for Venezuela’s bestie. Yes, the Tories are unlovable, but the next election will be a choice between mild sleaze and incompetence, and utter, utter ruin.

If people, egged on the BBC and Sky, choose to ignore the historical failures of socialism and the grotesque immorality of Corbyn and McDonnell alike, then not even a resurrected Disraeli could stop them.
