The Anti Democrats

Gina Miller is demanding again…

The campaigner who forced Theresa May to ask Parliament’s permission to trigger Article 50 has demanded the House of Lords show “backbone” and push the Government into concessions on Brexit.

Speaking exclusively to The Independent,Gina Miller said those debating Ms May’s Article 50 Bill this week must take the lead because the House of Commons had shown “cowardice” in failing to win any compromise.

Hmmm… I don’t recall seeing her name on a ballot paper at any time. So, she is no more than another citizen expressing a view – and we know what her view is. Fine, she is entitled to it. She is entitled to express it. What she is not entitled to do is to demand anything. What she and the anti-democrats who, like her, are trying desperately to overturn the referendum result, seem to forget is that parliament passed an act to enable the referendum. It is now putting into place the outcome. That is democracy in action. Trying to overturn the result because you don’t approve is anti democratic. That these people are trying to paint themselves as the democrats here shows just how twisted their logic is – not to mention their erstwhile latent authoritarianism.

But Ms Miller told The Independent that after she and her team won the right for Parliament to be consulted, she now fears the upper House will bow to media pressure and pass the Bill unamended.

And so they should. Parliament passed an act to enable the referendum. We, the people, cast our votes. Parliament has now passed the bill to carry out the result. So, yes, the Lords should pass it.

She said: “I think it’s absurd this idea that the Lords should just get on with it and not have a proper debate. After we fought so hard to put the Commons back at the centre of the debate, all the Commons did was rubber stamp the Bill – which was cowardice.

“I am hoping the Lords actually do what they should be doing constitutionally – exercising their parliamentary sovereignty, being independent, scrutinising the Government and looking to put in amendments.”

There’s no need. Brexit is Brexit as May said. And that means severing our membership of the EU. Now, having had the vote, having had the debate, they should just get on with it.

If Miller is so dissatisfied with our system, I suggest she stands for parliament and makes her argument there. Or she could do as the rest of us do and contact her constituency MP and lobby there. What she has no place doing is demanding anything. I for one am heartily sick of her petulant foot stamping. She wasted taxpayers’ money on an unnecessary court case that merely delayed the inevitable, for most MPs did the right thing and honoured the referendum result.

Some of the comments below the line make for depressing reading, showing us as they do some really nasty anti-democratic authoritarians who, like Miller are claiming that slavery really is freedom.

  1. But Ms Miller told The Independent that after she and her team won the right for Parliament to be consulted, she now fears the upper House will bow to media pressure and pass the Bill unamended.

I thought she insisted her actions had nothing to do with Brexit…

  2. Presumably she’s been watching, or maybe apprenticed to, lucifer blair PLC kerching, perfecting the kiss of death to any movement or idea.

They don’t get it, no bugger’s taking then seriously any more, taking the piss more like, increasingly they are having quite the opposite reaction among the man on the Clapham Omnibus who has come to despise that whole rotten class of entitled elite champagne quaffers and their legion of hangers on.

  3. Interesting to be lectured on freedom by a woman who assured her own emancipation by marrying someone with a shitload of money.
