Much Joy

In the kingdom of Heaven.

But then he began to have doubts about many of the political positions he held and started confronting what he saw as right-on shibboleths. Pretty soon he was being denounced as a turncoat in the same terms that he had once denounced others. In recent years, he has made several documentaries, with attention-grabbing titles such as Things We Won’t Say About Race That Are True, that have aimed to challenge received wisdoms. The latest, which sounds like a homage to a Daily Telegraph letters page correspondent, is entitled Has Political Correctness Gone Mad?

The answer to the question is, of course, “yes”. Political correctness is not some sort of politeness, it is a cancer, a disease that eats away at society, allowing the poison to fester, for it stifles free speech and attempts to control our very thoughts, encouraging self-censorship. Freedom to speak means the freedom to offend and those so offended may respond in kind.

These days, if someone calls out “racist” or uses the terms such as “Islamophobe” or “homophobe” or some other variation, I switch off as they have labelled themselves as someone whose opinion I may safely ignore.

It’s nice to see that Phillips has finally seen the light, but the damage has been done and he was part of that.

Still, his thesis in the film is that by trying to corral political debate into a tightly policed acceptability, the political establishment has created the conditions for insurgent figures such as Nigel Farage, Jeremy Corbyn and Donald Trump.

So, finally, someone gets it.

  1. Sweden’s being well and truly fucked by the consequences of it’s progressive socialist policies (generally unreported by MSM). Almost certainly too late to repair the damage, though there doesn’t seem to be any desire to do so by government and majority of electorate. I guess you reap what you sow.

  2. All they have to do is use the word “diversity” without irony and I’m gone. There’s no point listening to someone that brainwashed in conventional thought. .

  3. Those too, who after some leftist howling, issue meaningless apologies. If you can’t stand behind your words and beliefs why should I listen to you?

  4. I was forced (or resign) to attend a PC Diversity Discrmination Race Awareness one day (Saturday, unpaid) “workshop”. Less than 1/2 hour into first lecture the melanin-enriched woman insisted “The Three Little Pigs” nursery rhyme was racist and we/I was racist if unaware. Hmm, melanin-enriched woman you’re nuts/crazy/mad or more likely a charlatan milking the “Diversity” cow.

At first coffee break I made a discreet exit.

      • It is a part of the past that they want to erase. They have to do this, or else people will notice all the different ways that people thought, back then, and will wonder why they can’t think that way right now. A different version of the memory hole. To try to erase the ways that human beings think, because they are human.
