If we lose

Something is happening in the Brexit debate that the polls and the demographic breakdowns are not catching. We know that rightwing Tory grandees are using the campaign as a proxy leadership contest against Cameron. What we don’t know is how the plebeian end of the Leave campaign will react if they lose. My instinct says: badly.

Given that  the polls suggest that most adults seem to expect a narrow remain victory,  then I doubt it. I hope to win, but expect to lose. I will survive. I wont be throwing a tantrum, rather a sigh of regret. So, er, you are a fucking idiot. So no surprise there, then…

The whole risible article is nothing more than projection. Idiot makes idiotic assumptions. Normal for the Guardian.

  1. I too want to leave but expect the remainers to win. My reaction to defeat is likely to be a deep sigh of resignation. To be honest I never thought that we would even get this referendum knowing how watertight politicians promises are, I though that they would just prevaricate indefinitely.

I haven’t actually heard anyone define what the result would have to be in order for the out vote to be carried. If 51% of a 60% turnout vote out then they can claim that the result is only just over 30% out. That can easily be then translated into almost 70% being in favour of the Status Quo.

    • Thats entirely my fear too. A Leave vote will only ever be by a small margin, and I reckon its a cast iron certainty the Establishment will just ignore it somehow if it happens, or demand another vote on a renegotiated ‘deal’ with the rest of the EU.

Its the EU way – if the public vote against the EU, make them vote again until they give the right answer.
