Today’s Statement of the Obvious

Liam Fox.

The threat from the migration crisis could be “much worse” than the sex attacks in Cologne, Liam Fox has said, as he warned that terrorists could enter Britain posing as refugees.

Well, duh! Of course, saying so is waycist or Islamophobic.

Meanwhile over at the Groan they  are agonising over people telling them like it is below the line and they don’t like it.

Certain subjects – race, immigration and Islam in particular – attract an unacceptable level of toxic commentary, believes Mary Hamilton, our executive editor, audience. “The overwhelming majority of these comments tend towards racism, abuse of vulnerable subjects, author abuse and trolling, and the resulting conversations below the line bring very little value but cause consternation and concern among both our readers and our journalists,” she said last week.

Two points here – in the world of the Guardian, saying that  Islam is a nasty, brutal ideology is Islamophobic, trolling and toxic. Never mind that it is the truth and more and more ordinary people are increasingly alarmed at the  docile dhimmitude of the politicians and the press. Likewise, any disagreement with the orthodoxy that black people are institutionally discriminated against brings charges of racism. Indeed any disagreement brings ruthless deletion of comments below the line. The Guardian and  the fellow travellers on the progressive left do not tolerate any dissent and that is what this is about.

“Of course, we want a dialogue with our readers, but if only it could be conducted in a tone of voice that’s reasonable,” said Robert McCrum. “I’ve found that once things get out of hand in a thread it is virtually impossible to dial it down. I’ve got used to it. I don’t like it, but as a champion of free speech I’d rather let it rage on than try to curb it. But I do say that anonymity is bad for everyone.”

Bollocks.  The usual nonsense from  those who do not, actually, believe in free speech. Certain opinions could result in people being thrown out of their jobs, hence anonymity is essential for a free exchange of ideas.  And, frankly, the idea that Islam is nasty and that we do not need to give black people special treatment are just the type of straying from the leftist orthodoxy that would see people being persecuted. Bear in mind here, that I have personal experience of this behaviour. The troll “Rickie”  has tried on more than one occasion to out me with precisely that outcome in mind.

So, fuck off, frankly.

  1. ““Of course, we want a dialogue with our readers, but if only it could be…”

Limited to readers who agree with us?

  2. Someone commented on a Daily Wail thread that the reason for the ugly scenes in Dover was because the moderates have never been allowed to debate the issue.

  3. Well we, over on Counting cats, have only ever deleted one comment. And I believe that was one of mine that identified, inadvertantly, too closely where NickM lived, when he didn’t want it public knowledge.

We seem to have inherited Rickie from you Longrider, and also a twat name of Cedric something or other. Ho Hum!

Out of site out of mind seems to be the order of the day, even Guido is doing it. We say post and be damned, however an annoying fuckwit you are. We can choose to ignore you, after all.

    • The problem with that approach is that it encourages them. Eventually, they pollute your comments threads. Diocelse tried your approach and finally gave up in exasperation. He had two trolls – Rickie and Bane/Dave/Patroller. The latter would come straight in with threats and intimidation. Rickie was better behaved following repeated bans from other sites. However, he would effectively use the comments section as his own personal blog to spout anti-smoking nonsense. Eventually one commenter challenged him and you got the temper tantrum I linked to. That went on over a period of days and several posts. Dioclese drew a line under it. So you’ve got him. He will do the same eventually. He always does.

My experience has taught me that the best way to deal with these people is to simply delete and ban as soon as they rock up. Realising that they won’t get what they want, they stop. Bane tried it on over at mine. He’s gone. Rickie got his fingers burned. Again, I don’t have a problem with him.

I did have someone similar to Cedric. He accused me of being a conspiracy theorist because I refused to accept the orthodoxy of the obesity crisis. That discussion went on for over ninety comments. Eventually, despite it being pointed out that the evidence of one’s own eyes is worth more than graphs and a flawed metric, he went for that one – the conspiracy theorist line. That was it. Order of the boot. I don’t pay for this server to provide a platform for fuckwits.
