Bollocks. Politically liberal and leftwing are two different things. If you are leftwing, you are more than likely to be a nasty little totalitarian. I am not that. I am liberal – in the dictionary sense.

You can say the same about conservatism or economic liberalism. The further these ideologies move towards right wing dogmatism and intolerance, the more dead bodies accumulate.

I don’t think that I need all of this to prove that I am of above average intelligence. I find it interesting that otherwise intelligent people can be left wing in much the same way that otherwise intelligent people can be religious. Both groups of people believe things that are demonstrably false. But then nobody can be right all the time so I try not to be too clever about it in case I do too.

The findings that American “liberals” (I.e. Lefties) tend to be better educated and more intelligent than conservatives is hardly new or surprising and there is abundant evidence to corroborate it. A sub species of right winger that bucks this trend is the economic liberal, or libertarian. But it never ceases to amaze me that otherwise bright libertarians can believe so many things that are demonstrably untrue. Libertarianism is more a cult than a coherent and defensible political ideology
