And Another Thing…

Following on from the Jimmy Carr humour thing, we get this today.

A Tory councillor from Berkshire who joked that travellers refusing eviction should be “executed” has been suspended by his party.

Cox Green councillor Alan Mellins made the remark at a Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council meeting on Monday.

He later apologised and said the remark was not to be taken seriously.

The borough’s Conservative Party called the comment “deplorable” and one that was “not tolerated” by the party.

It’s at times like this I realise that we have lost not only our sense of humour, our sense of the absurd, but also our sense of proportion. Sure, the remarks were tasteless. But that is all. The reaction is, as has become usual these days, way over the top. The puritanical left has gained control of our language and our thoughts. We are no longer to voice “inappropriate” thoughts out loud. There was time when both Jimmy Carr’s remarks and those of Alan Mellins would have been smiled at – maybe even raised a titter – but would have otherwise gone unremarked, because they are unremarkable. At least in any sane world they would be. We no longer live in a sane world, though.

No, these days if you make a comment that is not politically correct – is “unacceptable” – you lose your job, are hounded by the twatterati, are decried as a witch from the rooftops, for no one must ever be exposed to opinions they don’t like or are “offensive”.

Free speech means, if it is to mean anything, the right to say things that others might find offensive or unacceptable. It means saying unreasonable things for if we may only utter the reasonable or the inoffensive we have no freedom of speech. Yes, free speech. That’s a thing of the past now, isn’t it?

And Mellins, like tactless men all over the world, merely vocalised what many are already thinking…

  1. “Execution” is such a strong word for it. Perhaps we should use the phrase “euthenased”as it[‘s softer, or better still “Liverpool Care Path” which is lovely really innit.

  2. Perhaps gypos should be made to pay taxes- then watch them disappear. Anyone who has read my ‘mixture’, at my place, will know I am a scion of political correctness……….

Most folk do not subscribe to this bollocks. It is driven, as usual, by the vocal few. Let us rail against the PC mob until our fingers bleed. They have no right to tell us what we can say in a free society. Thought transducers are next, mark why words. Our thinking words will be censored and we will be shocked everytime we think ‘gypo’. Er, time for my meds.

As for the gypo question. Well, shooting is too good for them. I’d burn the lot of them and their encampment. Purging by fire is the only answer (sorry meds not kicked in yet).

  3. I agree with Mr. Mellins’ statement, and like his humour. What staggers me is his sheer stupidity, did he expect any other outcome from his comments? He was not fired from the Party for the words he used, but for the fact he voiced them where he did.

  4. It is the fact that these people apologize that pisses me off.

Any one does not like what I say, the FUCK them! It is not MY problem.
