Compulsory Volunteering

Via James, this outrageous article by Melanie Reid:

What we must do, I suggest, is introduce a new concept of universal compulsory volunteering. (As practised in the Army: “Right lads, we need three volunteers – you, you and you.”) Everyone aged 12 to 85 would have to devote a minimum of 12 days a year to the service of others – causes of any kind, as long as they are worthwhile. It might be giving financial advice to a charity, walking dogs, mentoring young offenders, gardening for the elderly. People could choose; but they must make a commitment.

YOU. FUCKING. WHAT!?!

There is a word for compulsory service and that word is slavery. Melanie Reid; you can take your compulsory volunteering (and your fucking newspeak) and stick it where the sun don’t shine. I don’t do compulsory service – and I sure as hell do not, under any circumstances whatsoever, do serfdom; which is what this dreadful idea amounts to. Go fuck yourself with the wrong end of a pineapple, you evil harridan. Never, never, never!

It’s too late – we’re already slaves. Tax Freedom Day this year was 2 June. Next year it will probably be sometime in July. By the middle of the next decade it will be sometime in December whichever socialist party (the red one or the blue one) wins the next election.
