A Totalitarian Speaks

The truly egregious Geoff Hoon:

Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon has said the government is prepared to go “quite a long way” with civil liberties to “stop terrorists killing people”.

And, in so doing, hands those terrorists (the few competent ones that there are) an undeserved victory without detonating a single bomb. The man is an arsehole; an arsehole who has no understanding of history or the human condition. The man is, frankly, the spawn of Stalin.

He was responding to criticism of plans for a database of mobile and web records, saying it was needed because terrorists used such communications.

Bollocks. There is already perfectly usable legislation for carrying out surveillance on suspected criminals or terrorists. There is no case whatsoever for the routine mass surveillance being proposed – apart, that is, from the arrant control freakery that pervades the political classes and New Labopur in particular. Only someone who wants to criminalise a whole population would think this proposal has any merit. That or someone who is very, very stupid.

By not monitoring this traffic, it would be “giving a licence to terrorists to kill people”, he said.

More arrant bollocks. This fatuous statement is beneath contempt, frankly, much like the vacuous man who uttered it. Monitoring all our communications will create so much noise that the only way of finding anything will be to go on fishing expeditions – and the likely victims of that activity will not be criminals or terrorists, they will be dissenters, or people who have upset their local council by putting out the wrong bins. This is an unwarranted intrusion by the state into the lives of British subjects; into, quite frankly, matters that are none of its damned business. What I comminucate, when and with whom is not the government’s business and if this proposal goes ahead, I will take measures to keep it that way.

He added: “The biggest civil liberty of all is not to be killed by a terrorist.”

Now, I always knew the man was a fuckwit – but this statement confirms it beyond all doubt. Only a fool or a complete control freak comes out with such piffle – and means it.

Now, say after me: “The state is not your friend. Politicians are the enemy.”

  1. On the money LR.The man is a total fuckwit.Given a choice of his lilly livered, freedom hating, totalitarian, form filling, surveillance camera shit and risking a terrorist attack, I’ll risk the attack. They really are a bunch of spineless arseholes.I wouldn’t want one of these bastards backing me up in a tight spot.

  2. They’re insane.

First the data base would be impossible to manage and full of millions of holes. So it would be a massive waste of time and money.

And second and more importantly it would be the most awful invasion of civil liberties ever.

  3. ‘Ang on……………I’m not a British subject, I’m a free born Englishman and a British CITIZEN according to my passport. I’ve never taken an oath of fealty to the crown nor would I. I want a political system for adults, a republic with an elected head of state. I’m not subject to anyone…….other than my wife of course!

  4. Having republican sympathies myself, I’m inclined to agree. However, until we have reformed our political system, so that politicians are subservient and fully accountable to the people, I’m disinclined to pursue that one. After all, look where elections have got us so far…

  5. I would literally prefer to be blown up tomorrow by a terrorist than put up with one more illiberal piece of legislation from our dear leader and his fucking thought police.

    FUCK!

Do they really not see that the worst a terrorist can do is kill a load of people. They cannot take our freedoms, our rights away. They say the terrorists hate our way of life and want to destroy it, but frankly they don’t have the power to do so. So WHY THE FUCKING FUCK are the govt so keen to do just that? FUCK.

    Did I mention FUCK!
