Drive-by Trolls

This week I deleted a comment. So perhaps it is time to revisit the matter of comments. Deletion isn’t a regular occurrence and I am usually loathe to do so. However… I have better things to do with my time than bother with people who simply want to tell me off because they read something that offends their sensibilities. If you disagree with me, that’s fine; explain why and we can talk about it. Although anyone attempting to justify attempts to regulate what we eat is going to have some mighty convincing to do. Unless we are once more being blockaded by a flotilla of U Boats, then forget it.

If, however, you merely want to express your disgust at my rejection of control freakery, tough; get over yourself. If you choose to comment without adding to the discussion simply to express your disgust, then it will be deleted. You are a troll.

And, before someone starts wittering on about freedom of speech; this is private property. You do not have the right of freedom of speech here. You obey my rules. These are pretty relaxed, but I object to idiots, trolls and spammers. You are a guest here. Behave accordingly and you will be treated as such.

The commenter who found his pithy throw-away remarks floating in cyberspace fitted into the first two categories.

  1. As a defender of free speech you have my support.

You have freedom of speech on your own blog/in public but not in mah fookin’ hoose. If you want to be an arsehole do it somewhere else.

  2. You’re right- a blog is one’s home. The lack of manners people show in people’s homes, here , astounds me at times.

Personally, I like trolls at my blog for they are the hecklers who come freely to be bashed.:)

In most forums though, their ‘input’ is just inappropriate.

  3. Yes, I notice that some people like to tease them. Personally, I’d rather not encourage them. I simply don’t have the inclination or patience.
