Gordon Brown and David Cameron went head to head tonight to showcase their green credentials as the two men gave keynote speeches on the environment.

According to Al Gore, this is a good thing: 

Al Gore, the former US vice-president turned environmental campaigner, called the political debate between the two men “a breath of fresh air” compared with the situation in the US.

If this is fresh air, give me CO2 please. Interviewed on the lunchtime news, Gore told us that this is responsible politics. What, I wonder, is responsible about two robber barons slugging it out to see who can screw the most out of the beleaguered taxpayer in the name of the new religion? This has nothing to do with being “green” and everything to do with power, greed, self advancement and control freakery.

Suddenly, it becomes difficult to tell who is Tory and who is New Labour; they both look the same…
